 | 'Testing' by Gwenael Salaun, 2008 Drawing and painting on paper, 92x110cm With this new artwork, Gwenael Salaun pursues his search for hidden meaning behind the symbols of our modern civilisation. The superposition of apparently non related images converges into the focal point of an old music recorder. Love, poetry , consumerism and death are present in the artwork as they are in the songs by this rapper, and mixed in the same way his music is. But the rapper himself is a symbol of revolt and creativity that gets mixed into the broader picture, revealing our own misunderstanding of this new generation. Gwenael Salaun explores with great talent the possibilities of a different technique from his usual canvas paintings. Combining pencil drawing and brush painting on a thin white paper, he creates a subtle artwork with a deep soul. This artwork succesfully plays the contrast of a very contemporary theme with a drawing technique that echoes traditional asian art. >more info about this artist |
