‘infinitieS’
was the third exhibition by The French Art Studio at Eight Members Club. This group show featured three very talented artists whose work is oriented to abstraction. These three artists all share the same particularity: they were originally architects before becoming painters. From this common background in architecture, they have inherited an astonishing sense of textures and volumes. Renouncing to the traditional conventions of geometrical representations, they suggest three dimensional images on a flat surface through a subtle use of colours, light and textures, source of a very expressive sensuality. In between abstraction, representation and concept, in between gestural and colour-field painting, an original language emerges to tell the poetry of an infinite world.

Sylvain Polony is inspired by urban imageries. He uses industrial lacquers and aluminium plates to produce artworks that seem to have been created as part of an industrial process. His paintings are like fractal images on a plasma screen, but nourished by real pigments, chemical effects and texture interactions. The artist views these metal plates as mirrors of mega-cities and their irresistible halo. Sylvain Polony invites us to a night walk in an infinite urban maze, from high energy spaces with neon, agitation, smoke and bright colours to shivering darkness. His art contains the soul of reality and the unleashed freedom of virtuality. >more

Leonardo Godoy-Mühsam creates specific urban elements to initiate a broader space with undefined boundaries. These elements are more or less formalised, more or less finalised, from sketch to representation. His artworks suggest multiple reading across the open linen surface, with profound contradicting perspectives and opposing volumes. The artist brings together lines and colour fields to give his vision of infinity, as a perpetual construction and dilution. >more

Jean-Marc Sanchez’s paintings oscillate between abstraction and figurative representations of physical elements. His work transports us in an aerial journey to the drama of confronting natural forces. The violence of fire and smokes clashes with the lightness of air and clouds, and the strength of water embraces the voluptuousness of the earth. The eternal cycle of order and chaos is suggested through this series of artworks. Opposing the richness of bright colours with dark inks, superposing layers of paintings with subtle texture effects, the artist reveals the aesthetic sensuality of these infinite combinations. >more
