| Costa Fernando Costa is a free thinker who questions the rules of the society. He breaks in pieces public road signs to create his own compositions, bursting interdictions to define new possibilities. This transgressive art is an act of freedom. Metal or enamel signs are cut into small parts, distorted and reorganised like a jigsaw on a metal frame. These reconstructions suggest a new meaning and reveal hidden beauty. Working with vintage road signs, Costa also raises the question of the perpetuation of established norms and the possibility to evolve whilst recycling our cultural heritage. Fernando Costa (b.1970) lives and works in Sarlat in the South West of France. He is a self taught artist who worked initially as steward on the Queen Elizabeth II ferry. Costa has been collaborating with numerous art galleries in France and Belgium over the past 10 years. In 2004, he won the first prize for best sculptor at the International Art Symposium in Toulouse. | ![]() 'Side by side' by Costa |
