Gwenaël Salaün and the re-synchronised memories

Gwenaël Salaün was born in France in 1960. He has developed his art in parallel of being a talented musician, pioneering techno concerts in France and in Belgium in the 80s-90s, and creating music for several theatre plays. He now lives and works in Morlaix in Brittany. His art has been exhibited in numerous galleries in France and in Belgium over the last 20 years.
Gwenaël Salaün creates paintings in the way he used to mix techno music. He selects themes and melodies belonging to our collective memories, applies scratches, accelerations, distortions, and overlaps. He matches elements from our modern culture that otherwise would have never coexisted, revealing the infinite combinations of our subjective reality.

Gwenaël Salaün deconstructs words and imposes white silences. The output is a new language, in constant mutation. It can only be unfinished, with more questions than answers. His art is extremely seductive because so well in sync with our unconscious. It carries an incredible energy whilst displaying fragile lines and subtle colours: the reshuffled images and words have gained in strength through a new coherence.
