Sun7
Sun7 (pronounced ‘Sunset’) explores the fusion of graffiti, stencil and text art. He assembles words into subtle networks of condensed handwriting to create portrays. His texts talk about the personality of the depicted characters but are hardly readable, raising the question of coding/decoding humanity. Sun7’s calligraphy reveals images whilst hiding their true meaning.
Sun7 (b. 1977) lives and works in Paris. He started graffiti in the streets of Paris and New York in the 90s and his art has gradually evolved to studio work on media like canvas, wood panels or metal plates. Sun7 has participated to major collective exhibitions at the Lyon Biennale, the Palais de Tokyo, Fondation Cartier and the Grand Palais. He has also been exhibited at the Espace Louis Vuitton in Paris with Tracey Emin and Jenny Holzer as part of the show ‘Les écritures silencieuses’.
