Claire Fahys and the new Metropolis

Claire Fahys explores the future of social relationships in an increasingly virtual and global world. Her paintings and collages depict gigantic cities with aggregated skyscrapers as an allegory for both the uncontrolled population expansion and the ever growing power of World Wide Web. Freed up from any material constraint, virtual communities allow infinite interconnections for an unlimited population. But like vertical villages imagined by Le Corbusier in the 30s, these giant cities that aim at developing human relationships do have a dehumanised aspect. In the transition from the old real world to the new virtual world, human beings will make the scaring experience of their smallness relative to the mass.

Claire Fahys (b. 1984) has recently graduated from Central St Martins School. She is French, and she lives and works in London. She has participated to several group exhibitions and to the London Art Fair in January 2008. She has been represented by The French Art Studio since May 2008.
